The reaction of Joey Gatewood’s teammates to the UCF transfer

While that was almost final last week, former Auburn football QB Joey Gatewood officially announced his transfer to the UCF Knights of the University of Kentucky football program.

Gatewood, a former Tiger who sadly lost the QB battle to Bo Nix in 2019, will now reunite with the same coach who chose Nix over him, Gus Malzahn.

The 2018 class flagman, who initially signed up for Auburn’s football program in 2015, is now heading to his third team in five years. UCF will be the first non-SEC program it will play for.

Gatewood’s announcement inspired some of his teammates to take to social media to congratulate him:

Boise State TE Riley Smith, another Bartram Trail prospect of 2018, called out the game between his Broncos and the Gatewood Knights:

Interestingly enough, Smith was actually a quarterback at Bartram Trail, so he supported Gatewood during their time in Northeast Florida.

Although they were taken off the program for two years, Auburn football fans have also wished Gatewood the best of luck in his next move, despite being with an aspiring rival whose fan base has failed. no loss of love for AU:

Gatewood is far from toppling incumbent UCF QB and NFL prospect Dillon Gabriel, but that won’t stop Fly War Eagle from wishing the youngster the best of luck in his UCF career.
