But he came back from the desert under Ralf Rangnick.
Dalot, 22, replaced Aaron Wan Bissaka as the regular starter.
And Rangnick wants to secure its future, in a massive summer reconstruction.
Now United will look to protect their initial investment in a man who cost £18million in 2018 and was described as the new Gary Neville by then-boss Jose Mourinho.
Dalot still has 16 months left on his current contract.
United are unwilling to leave him beyond the summer, with Borussia Dortmund showing interest.

And if the player indicates that he is ready for a long-term commitment with the club, he can also hope for a salary increase.
The defender currently earns £50,000 a week in salary but that would increase if he signs a new contract.
Dalot is expected to keep his place when the Red Devils travel to Elland Road to take on Leeds United on Sunday.
